A "Joe Gallagher Family" Update

Instead of posting a crapload of pictures, I came up with this one - it's from Michelle's wedding in September - the whole family plus one (my Mom's mother Shirley) Mom and Dad are still in Crofton...they've been talking about moving but for years it's been all talk and no action LOL...some "sprucing up" in the house has just begun so maybe it's for real this time and a new address is in their future! Mom is still a professional shopper and still loves to host just about anything :) Dad is keeping busy with the business still and tries to get to the mountains in the fall/winter for ATVing and out on the boat in the spring/summer. They both love being grandparents - they're at 4 and counting! I (Nikki) live about an hour from my parents with my husband and 2 kids. We have a gorgeous 6 year old daughter, Olivia who is in the 1st grade...she loves gymnastics and hates being away from Grandma for too many days in a row! Our rough & tough 2 yea

Gallaghers where are you ?

We need some input from our cousins who enjoy better weather south of the 49th! I know for a fact that there are billions of stories from there. My hitch hiking trip to Honduras in 1991 was made all that much better by my stay in Gallagher central. I got to meet almost all my cousin's kiddies which was wonderful in itself but since then they have multiplied. Lauren I see that you have been looking in on the blog, you need to alert the masses and get them to write. Thanks Rob

Westcoast Deans

The Dean 5 of Coquitlam, BC Rob is enjoying the life of a kept man since the spoon accident that lobbed off 2 digits. Despite his shortcomings, he still manages to take care of his charges. Tamara is a recent MEd. graduate, teaching grade 2, a Roots of Empathy instructor and designing a new empathy program involving seniors and children. Caitlin is in grade 3 and hoping for a career in world domination. Until she is crowned, she is enjoying ballet, swimming, Brownies, and reading, and desperately wanting horses. Kyle is in Kindergarten but is often mistaken for being in grade 3 due to his height. He enjoys biking, swimming, Beavers, and bugging his sister until she screams at him. Ayden, although only 3 (as of Jan. 30) has already made his mark on his siblings. Fortunately, "time wounds all heels". He too enjoys swimming and keeping up with everything the older kids can do. We welcome most visitors. Call us if you want to be on the list.

Where are they now?

Where are they now? I dunno - but it's a damn good question... Brenda emailed me today and asked what I was up to these days. It turns out we haven't seen seen each in a long, long, long time. So, since the profiling capabilities in here are anything but robust I thought i'd ask everyone to post an update on their family: who's where, doing what, with whom, for how long - that sort of thing. I could check the cookbook, but i'm afraid that it's woefully out of date...

Peanutbutter is in the kitchen

This story is to give some insight into what life was like at 86 Glendale Avenue in St.Catharines. My Father (uncle Ed) always seemed to enjoy dispensing his form of enforcing good manners. He would often do so with a smile on his face. I'm relaying a story that happened to my brother Denis. Denis was walking home after basketball practice one evening, tired and very hungry. As he walked home he was dreaming of which great meal would be ready when he got home. Would it be spaghetti or lasagna or even hamburgers? Well sure enough, as he walked in, dinner was being put on the table. He sat down as my mother leans over him and puts a plate of pork chops and potatoes in front of him. Not only were pork chops not one of the things he was hoping for, they weren't even in the top ten. So Denis says "oh man, pork chops again". With that, in one quick motion, my father reaches over saying, "not hungry?" He takes Denis's plate, gives the pork chops to me and the p

The cool guy with the hat!

My first clear memory of Uncle John was a visit he made to us in Milton. Our parents were going away for the weekend. Aunt Karen and Uncle Mike were coming to have a relaxing weekend with the three of us kids. I remember running to the car full of excitement when a huge leather hat came out from the back! I was in awe. Where did they find him? He had a long beard, a very trendy coat and a warm smile. Mom told us this was our Uncle John, her brother. I was in shock!! How could my mother have a "hippie brother". I remember bits and pieces of that weekend but I clearly remember Uncle John taking a piece of grass and making noises with it. Climbing up on his lap to hear him read me a story in a very exciting tone. It's not a big memory but its a nice one.
