Christy and Nikki

I forgot to mention how wonderful it was to read Christy and Nikki's write ups as well yesterday. It was.

Ten years ago today my mother passed away. It seems surreal to write it down but there you are.

Kevin Ford tells a funny story of the last time he saw my mom.

I remember as a teen, being at a go-kart track (Prudhommes Landing) with my family. We had a great day, trying out the different rides and having fun with one another.

Mom decided that she would give the go-karts a go when we did and we were quite impressed with this. Mom had never driven anything bigger then a Tonka truck up to this point as far as my memory went so you can imagine the incredible speeds that she must of reached on this day!Anyway Dad,Kathy, Pat and I were standing outside the fence (our turns having long been over) as we waited for Mom.

We waited.

And we waited.

...

Finally Mom puttered into the pit stop and went to get up.

She tried to the left

then she tried to the right

then the left.

Then Mom knew there was no way she was getting out of that little cart without help.

"Bob,Bob,Bo, I can't get out" "Bob,Bob,Bob,Bob, I can't get out " Bob......

This was done very loudly as Mom was starting to worry that she was never leaving the cart. Her children were no help, once Mom started with "Bob, Bob.." We hung our heads and pretended we didn't know who the crazy lady was getting all the stares from ALL the other people present. Enmasse we walked away admiring the sights as he who was and is Bob did his husbandly duty and extracted our dear mother from her prison.

I don't recall what she said to us later but I know that she left the driving to Dad.

Hey all I can say is I was all of 12 years old, had a broken wrist, and barely weighed a buck five.

There was little I could do.

When I was twelve we lived in Belleville and I had to tunnel in the snow uphill to school and my ELEVEN year old sister had to tunnel home. And this was in the spring . We took turns fending off the wolves so the other could dig. While Pat lived in luxury at Aunt Lorretto Ann's Motor Otel, His mother pampering him, loving him and when she needed him most he runs off with his siblings WHO WERE EXTREMELY EMBARRASSED.
Broken wrist... what a wimp.

Poor Mom

Oh Man - You've set a new bar for blog posts. We may have to change the settings on this blog so that it's not public. Some of the memories I'd like to share should be kept in the family...

Bochsler Family Update

Last week I tried to "encourage" my family to post to this blog. I sent them all TERRIBLE pictures of themselves and threatened to post them here if they didn't post their own. Although they all responded soon enough to my threat, nobody has updated this blog yet. To be fair, this sort of thing is easier for me to do so I'll give a general update on the family. I won't post those nasty pictures just yet, because I'm sure there are some of me floating around and I don't want to start a war. You may remember there are 6 kids, in order of age: Mark, Colleen, Paul, David, Kathleen & Kevin. Hearing it listed like that reminds me of being called for dinner. :) Mom and Dad (Maureen and Al) are both in good health and living in that big house you remember in Ancaster. The house and property itself would look very different to many of you as my Dad's projects have really transformed the place. There are no more big willow trees (and no more treehouse!) :( ...

Remembering Sean

The remaining Barrys. This picture was taken at Sean's funeral. Sean's absence is definitely felt. The last time I saw Sean, was about a year ago, the end of March '06. My husband, Brian and I showed up unannounced at his place and he graciously entertained us. If he had other plans, he never mentioned them. My brother, Brian has a pub in Camrose, AB. Sean apparently would stop in daily and drink coffee, wanting to stay in touch. Brian had a new year's eve party a couple of month previous, so I asked Sean if he'd gone. He said no, he'd quit drinking and realized that a new years eve party would probably not be conducive to achieving his goals. He'd also recently quit smoking. I remember thinking that was a lot to give up all at once, but of course didn't want to say anything to discourage him. Sean also had a dream to buy himself all new camping gear and go on a camping trip. This he did at the end of the summer. After achieving his goals, his heart gave...
