When we, the Barry family, were growing up in Montreal, Uncle John came to visit. My parents, (Aunt Helen and Uncle Jack) left Uncle John to babysit all of us - maybe we were 8 kids in the family by then or maybe there were just 7 of us at the time. Uncle John was definitely a very gentle and sweet Uncle and actually took the time to do something special with us. He tried to get the 7 or 8 of us to focus and he attempted to read us a story.

All I remember about that incident is that we were all sitting in the living room at 4950 Doherty, our home in Montreal at the time. Very possibly, let me clarify, most definitely we were probably acting up because poor Uncle John tried to get us to settle down so that he could be heard but to no avail. In the end he had to close the book because there was too much confusion and noise and very little listening going on.

What a pity, I wonder what book he had chosen?

Kevin has some great photos (ok, so I remember one) of John reading to his kids. Maybe he can post it.

This reminds me of a story I cherish that Aunt Nora once told me. Its not about Uncle John directly, but it may explain his love of books...
Our Grandmother (Loretto Knapman) could apparently be found at any given time surrounded by her children, telling them a story, amid disarray and confusion. It seems either Nance or Girlie commented "Now you tell me who is a good mother"

Bochsler Family Update

Last week I tried to "encourage" my family to post to this blog. I sent them all TERRIBLE pictures of themselves and threatened to post them here if they didn't post their own. Although they all responded soon enough to my threat, nobody has updated this blog yet. To be fair, this sort of thing is easier for me to do so I'll give a general update on the family. I won't post those nasty pictures just yet, because I'm sure there are some of me floating around and I don't want to start a war. You may remember there are 6 kids, in order of age: Mark, Colleen, Paul, David, Kathleen & Kevin. Hearing it listed like that reminds me of being called for dinner. :) Mom and Dad (Maureen and Al) are both in good health and living in that big house you remember in Ancaster. The house and property itself would look very different to many of you as my Dad's projects have really transformed the place. There are no more big willow trees (and no more treehouse!) :( ...
